It is always preferable to avoid the distress and prolonged effect of court proceedings. As a Resolution member and a collaborative lawyer, I will always endeavour to minimise conflict. This approach maintains the dignity and respect of clients at a difficult time and enables them to work through emotional, financial and legal issues to make informed decisions after considering all the options. This method also allows for agreement out of court, encourages client discussions and keeps the control and decisions in the hands of the clients.
Whilst I actively promote a conciliatory approach to family disputes and I will always encourage clients to focus on the long term solution, there are times when agreement cannot be achieved and court proceedings are necessary. In these circumstances, I am an experienced litigator and when needed I represent clients in court calmly and confidently. I always approach court applications sensibly and encourage fair agreements throughout.
I am supportive and understanding of client's worries and concerns. I have been described by clients in the past as "dedicated", "hard working", "patient", "understanding", "kind", "professional yet supportive and friendly".
I am an Accredited Member of the Law Society Family Panel and I am a Resolution Accredited Specialist in advanced financial provision, children and domestic violence.
My practice, Kirby Sheppard, has offices in Thornbury, Clifton, Kingswood and Queen Square, Bristol. I offer a free thirty minute meeting to assess client's cases and give some preliminary advice.
